Eva mandala

Beautiful September! I love fall and it’s beautiful colors. We are working hard trying to complete as much as we can in the new house we are building. I am already planning for Christmas. Yes, our goal is to celebrate Christmas together there.. Im not a fan of December stress. So I try to prepare the best I can. Already started with the presents.

The most beautiful thing we can give another person is our time. It’s the one thing. We never get back. This is why my favorite gifts are handmade. A hand written card. Knitted socks, blanket, cushion, wood work. the list is endless. It’s love.

Now. Over to the yarny treat!

I was lucky enough to try out this organic cotton yarn. The range of colors are simply amazing. And the yarn is super soft to work with. The Rainbow organic 8/8 yumminess is from Hobbii. And I decided I wanted to make a mandala cushion from it. Often people wonder what they can use their mandala for, and this is one way to do it.

I wanted to make a design that can get a new expression only changing colors. And it’s a perfect Christmas gift. As a doily if you make one. Or the cushion if you decide to make that. I didn’t have a round inner cushion by hand. So i stuffed the cushion directly before I made the last 15 sc, than closed it with the last 15 Sc.

The pattern is written in US terms.

Eva mandala

Yarn: Rainbow organic 8/8, Hobbii. 100 g Light grey 15, 100 g Light Apricot 03, 50 g Mint 24, 50 g Light lilac 41. This will give you two mandalas. If you want to transform it to a pillow, add 100 g Nature 02

Tools: Crochet hook eu4, yarn needle and scissors. If you are making the pillow you will also need a inner cushion or stuffing for it.

Tip: When creating the mandala let the color A (here Light grey) follow your work. Don’t cut the end after each round. Fewer ends to weave in and it will save you an extra skein.

After each round fasten yarn with a ss in the first stitch you started out with. Continue working the next round in the same stitch. For each round that starts with a hdc, ch 2 in the first round. This counts as your first hdc.

Abbreviations: ch – chain, ss – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, dc2tog – double crochet two together, inc – increase (crochet two stitches in one).

Here the colors are marked as A, B, C and D. Where A = Light Grey, B = Light lilac, C = Mint and D = Light Apricot. The yarn comes in many gorgeous colors, just choose the one that speaks to you the most. It can be a colorful firework or a calm breeze. The yarn will make up two mandalas. But for mandala 2, change color B with C and C with B.

If you want to make a cushion from this mandala, change color to nature. Continue working two more rounds.

27. Hdc in every sc. (152 hdc)

28. Hdc in every hdc. (152 hdc)

Make two pieces. Place them together letting the backside face each other. Join the mandalas using sc. Either insert a round cushion or stuffing before you close the two pieces completely. You can either decorate with a picot edging (sc, ch 3, ss in the first ch, sc in the next sc), a fan edge (*sc, skip one sc, 3 dc in the next sc* Repeat ** round out), or just leave it with a sc edging. You can also sew a zipper into the cushion over if you want to do so. Just take the measurement of the zipper so you leave a opening that fits the zipper. I used approx 300g of polyester stuffing for the cushion.

I hope your week brings many joyful moments!
